Florida Insurance Can Help Keep You Healthy

Part of the logic behind health reform is that when people are uninsured, or under-insured, they put off getting checkups and screenings which would detect the early onset of disease, because of the cost involved. This results in a lack of preventive care and an increased need for major health treatments down the track for many people, driving up health care costs in the process.

The aim of the Affordable Care Act is to make health coverage, which includes Florida insurance, more affordable and accessible for Americans, and on a fairer basis. Some of the changes include:

- Insurance companies will no longer be able to remove coverage or cancel a policy, due to an unintentional mistake on the application form, or if the insured person becomes ill. The exception to this will be for cases of fraud or deliberate misrepresentation; however in these instances the insurance companies would be required to provide a minimum of 30 days notice.

- Under the Act, insurers will be obliged to spend at least 80% of premium dollars on direct medical care or improvements to care quality, rather than on salaries, benefits or other costs.

These changes should help provide coverage for people who become ill at the time they are in most need of medical care. They should also help towards improving the quality and availability of care. This means that people with health insurance can have peace of mind that they should have adequate coverage in times of need.
